It’s the first Poker In The Ears podcast for over two months (how did we cope?), so the boys have plenty to talk about. But as always, it’s not James and Joe who are the stars of the show. This week, they are joined by Grammy and Emmy award winning director Joseph Kahn.
Kahn is quite the legend in Hollywood. He has worked with artists as highly praised as Mariah Carey, George Michael and Eminem. To give you an idea of his calibre, Kahn recently directed the Taylor Swift’s Blank Space, which has now garnered an astounding 2.5 billion views on YouTube.
During the interview (37:24), Khan discusses his frequent poker home games, as well as offering insight into originality and creativity in filmmaking (45:20), life in the public eye (52:30) and the rapid dissipation of controversy in modern society. What many people don’t know, is that Kahn once produced a commercial for PokerStars (48:14).
Before the interview, James and Joe share anecdotes from their recent trip to Vegas. They talk cowboys and nerds, Ultimate Texas Hold ‘em, and empty tables at the Rio. James learns how to persuade highly intoxicated and disagreeable opponent “Jeff” to cut a deal on the final table (11:24).
Stapleton has poker stories of his own, namely, his substantial losses in Hollywood home games (27:04). After discussions on EPT Prague and a bit of light Super Bowl banter, the boys move on to one of the more pressing issues of the episode, and indeed life: is it ever okay to argue with your boss about who took the worst bad beat?
The podcast ends with an Interstellar themed edition of “Superfan vs Stapes” (1:10:00). Alex Sadler from London plays for EPT Sochi satellite tickets and brand new podcast merchandise.
